Becoming a Graphic Designer
My name is Nathan Silvestri, and I have been interested in art my entire life, but it was only a couple of years ago that I became interested in graphic design. I’ve lived in North Smithfield, RI, my whole life and have loved residing in this small town where everyone knows each other. In 2017, I received my high school diploma in a graduation ceremony that I’ll never forget, marking the official start of my adult life. Months after graduating high school in 2017, I enrolled at CCRI to take general education classes because I was undecided about what I wanted to pursue. Two years later, I hadn’t earned a degree and felt that it was a waste of my time and didn’t fulfill my educational needs in the end.
However, in 2019, I discovered New England Tech, which has provided me with the best experience and opportunities yet. Even in my last year at CCRI, I took a photography class and a video editing class to prepare myself for New England Tech. When I applied, I was nervous about not getting in, but, sure enough, two weeks later, I received my acceptance letter stating I could start in the fall. It’s now officially one year since I became a student at New England Tech, and I couldn’t be happier with the positive experience and how much I’ve learned in such a short period.
When I’m not doing schoolwork or working on personal designs, I enjoy going on walks with my dogs, playing video games, reading, and being active on social media. Although being a graphic designer is my main focus, having free time is always necessary to recharge and refocus my mind on making designs.
I hope to one day work at a design company or possibly even start my own company. Either way, I’m willing to work hard to earn my bachelor’s degree from New England Tech and be ready to create meaningful designs for the world.
